Two silver presentation spanner keys: the larger one from Charing Cross, Euston and Hampstead Railway, engraved ‘Presented to the Right Honourable David Lloyd George MP, President of the Board of Trade on the occasion of his opening of The Charing Cross, Euston & Hampstead Electric Railway Undertaking on Saturday June 22nd 1907’, hallmarked Birmingham 1906 by Elkington & Co Ltd, the reverse engraved ‘This key was used by the Rt Jon David Lloyd George MP to start the first Electric Train run on The Charing Cross, Euston & Hampstead Electric Railway for Public Traffic’, 19 cm long, 9.5 ozt / 297 grams; the second smaller spanner engraved: ‘Presented to The Right Honourable David Lloyd George MP, President of the Board of Trade, on the occasion of his opening the Great Northern Piccadilly & Brompton Electric Railway Undertaking on Saturday December 15th 1906’. The reverse engraved ‘This key was used by The Rt Hon David Lloyd George MP to start the first electric train run on the Great Northern Piccadilly & Brompton Railway for public traffic’, hallmarked London 1906 by Mappin & Webb, 16 cm long, 6 ozt / 188 grams; together with a metal key engraved ‘Country Borough of Bournemouth New Police Headquarters opened 27th September 1956 by Her Majesty's Secretary of State for the Home Department Major the Rt Hon Gwilym Lloyd George MP’, and two other gilt keys. (5)

Provenance: Estate of the late William Lloyd George, 3rd Viscount Tenby (1927-2023), the grandson of David Lloyd George, 1st Earl of Dwyfor (1863-1945) the British Prime Minister from 1916 to 1922 during WWI.
