Comprising: Queen’s South Africa medal with 6 clasps Belmont, Modder River, Relief of Kimberley, Paardeberg, Driefontein, Johannesburg (11750 Sgt J. Castell, A.S.C.) and a King's South Africa medal with 2 clasps South Africa 1901 and South Africa 1902 (11750 Serjt. Castell, A.S.C.).
Note: Mentioned in Earl Roberts despatches 10th September 1901. Born in Holloway, London and enlisted 25.7.1894 age 18 years and trade as a carman. He had previous service in the 4th battalion Middlesex regiment. Served South Africa 6th October 1899 to 6th October 1902. Discharged 12th December 1912 having served 18 years, 146 days.
