John Smith & Sons, Clerkenwell. A fine Victorian brass twin-chain double fusee ivy leaf skeleton clock, c.1865, the finely pierced silvered chapter ring with black Roman numerals, with finely pierced and cut frame, strikeing the hour on a gong and the halves on a bell, the pendulum with blued steel flower head, supported on a red velvet mount with ebonised base, set with a pierced and engrabed metal retailers plaque 'J.H JUMP 11 Old Bond Street, London', with glass dome cover, clock including base measure approximately 56cm high.

Note from Derek Roberts clock specialist: This clock would have been supplied by Smiths of Clerkenwell to the eminent clock-maker J.H. Jump of 11 Old Bond Street, London whose finely executed plaque adorns the base of the clock. The frame is a little different to that illustrated in British Skeleton Clocks by Derek Roberts in Fig 19 for instance, in that it has been extended down by a loop, possibly because it is a two train clock. All the wheelwork has five crossings and is finely executed and the frame, whilst being quite substantial, is also most attractive. The clock strikes the hours on a gong and the halves on a bell. Although the plaque on the base is the original the base has had to be altered to fit the new dome.
